Technology

At Sunrise Dental of Eugene, we want every part of your experience with us to be pleasant and stress-free. With leading-edge technology, we can perform procedures more efficiently and comfortably to get you out of the dental chair faster.

Please take a look at all that we currently offer. If you have any questions about any of our technology, let us know, and we will be happy to provide more information!

Digital X-Rays

Digital dental x-rays expose our patients to about 80 percent less radiation than film x-rays do. They are also more comfortable for you because we’ve done away with the bulky film clips that you had to hold between your teeth. Instead, we use flat sensors with rounded corners that fit in your mouth comfortably and capture the digital image.

We care about your safety, and Dr. Kang never takes unnecessary x-rays. He bases the frequency of yours on your current and past oral health needs. Average patients typically require yearly bitewing x-rays; those with excellent oral health and no signs of cavities or gum disease may only need them every 18 months to 2 years.

We always review your x-rays with you so you can see for yourself what's happening with your oral health and why we recommend treatment. We save all your x-rays to your digital patient record, so they are always easy to access when needed for reference or to monitor certain conditions. Because your x-rays are stored digitally, we can share them easily with your insurance company or with specialists as needed.

Panoramic X-Rays

When Dr. Kang needs to see a picture of all your teeth in a single image, he uses panoramic x-rays. Just like a pano image on your phone, it provides a single continuous image of all your teeth and jaws.

With panoramic x-rays, we can see a detailed view of the position of your teeth, your sinuses, and any bone abnormalities. We also use them to diagnose conditions like advanced gum disease and impacted wisdom teeth. They also show us any jaw tumors and help us understand the source of your TMJ pain.

Taking a panoramic x-ray involves you standing in front of the x-ray unit while it rotates in a semi-circle around your head. Since these x-rays are extraoral (taken outside the mouth), they are helpful for adults who can’t tolerate intraoral x-rays, as well as young children and patients with special needs.

3-D Cone Beam Imaging (CBCT)

When we need to see inside or between your teeth, digital x-rays are perfect. If Dr. Kang is planning a procedure like dental implants, he needs to pinpoint the precise location in which to place it. In this case, we need a 3-D image that shows us all the anatomical structures of your face and jaw.

With 3-D cone beam imaging technology (CBCT), Dr. Kang sees a 360-degree view of the position of jaws, sinuses, and nerve pathways. He can measure the thickness of bone in the area and the orientation of nerves and other structures to plan the optimal placement of your implant.

Using CBCT helps Dr. Kang place the implant with a high degree of accuracy and precision. The benefit to our patients is an efficient, successful implant placement procedure and better long-term outcomes.

Digital Impressions

Everyone who has ever had any restorative work done—crowns, bridges, dentures, veneers—remembers having impressions taken. It was a long, messy, uncomfortable process, and if the impression wasn't usable, it would all need to be repeated.

With digital impressions, those days are over! There’s no mess and no discomfort because we take the images with a small scanner that sends them to our computer software. Dr. Kang designs your restoration right in the software, so the results are very accurate and precise.

Sending your case to the custom dental lab that prepares your restoration is as easy as pushing a button, and the result is a high-quality crown or bridge that perfectly fits your teeth and will give you years of use.

Intraoral Cameras

Understanding your dental needs when you can’t see the specific problem can be challenging. By using intraoral cameras at Sunrise Dental of Eugene, we give our patients the full picture!

Imagine sitting comfortably in your dental chair while Dr. Kang uses a small handheld camera to scan your teeth. At the same time, the images are projected onto your chairside monitor so you can follow along!

As our dentist conducts the exam and points out areas of concern, you can see everything he sees in great detail. It is much more informative to see a problem like a cavity for yourself rather than being told it exists.

Since we can save images from your exam to your digital patient record, they are easy to access as needed in the future.

Digital Records

At Sunrise Dental of Eugene, we’ve gone completely digital! In addition to state-of-the-art equipment like cone beam imaging and digital impressions, we use digital patient records.

You don’t have to worry, because all of your information is stored safely and securely on our in-house network. This also makes them easy to retrieve if we need to refer to them in the future or send them to your insurance company.

TVs in Treatment Rooms

If you’re not a fan of dental visits, you’ll really appreciate the TVs in each of our treatment rooms. You can enjoy a pleasant escape from the activity around you with your favorite TV show or news program, and your appointment will fly by!
