Children’s Dentistry

Are you looking for a family-friendly dental office that offers children’s dentistry? At Sunrise Dental of Eugene, Dr. Jiyung Kang and his team provide gentle, supportive care for kids aged five and older.

It’s crucial for children to develop positive feelings about dentistry and oral health care early in life. By teaching good oral hygiene habits and getting them used to dental visits from an early age, we hope to help them become excellent dental patients as adults.

A Gentle Children's Dentist in Eugene, OR

Having a family dentist who treats children means that all your family members can get quality dentistry in one convenient location. We also work on developing a friendly relationship with your child and showing them that the dental office is a safe, happy, and fun place to visit.

As a parent, you have peace of mind knowing that you have a familiar professional to turn to if a problem develops.

Preventive Dentistry for Kids

Dr. Kang treats children aged five and over. At this age, they have all their baby teeth, and in about a year, they will start losing them, making way for their first permanent molar around age six.

We recommend preventive dental exams and cleanings for children every six months at our Eugene dental office. Even if your child doesn’t have any issues, these appointments allow Dr. Kang to monitor their oral health. That way, if they do get a cavity, he can treat it right away before it does any long-term damage.

Fluoride Applications

Many children benefit from additional fluoride applications to protect and strengthen their teeth. Fluoride is a mineral that strengthens teeth and helps prevent new cavities from forming. Many public water supplies are fluoridated, but if your child drinks a lot of bottled water or you live on a well, they may benefit from supplemental fluoride

Dental Sealants

Once permanent teeth start erupting, it’s a good idea to have dental sealants applied to protect them. A dental sealant is a thin coating of plastic that is placed on the chewing surfaces of teeth like molars. These teeth are particularly cavity-prone because they have uneven surfaces and nooks and crannies where bacteria can hide.

The sealant effectively blocks bacteria from collecting in these areas and helps protect against cavities.

Custom Sports Mouthguards

If your child participates in any kind of contact sport—basketball, football, soccer—they need a sports mouthguard to protect their teeth from injury. Dr. Kang will be happy to take impressions of your child’s teeth and create a sports guard that fits their mouth perfectly.

A custom guard is a good idea because your child is more likely to wear it, and it provides greater protection for their teeth.

I’d recommend this place to anyone searching for a new dentist

Had the best experience. I just moved into town and looking for a new dentist. My DH was Shannon with two Ns. She was so sweet and informative! Dr. Kang was so welcoming in getting to know me and my needs and answering all my questions. I’m so used to Dentists just coming in to say hello and then lookin through and leaves. I’d recommend this place to anyone searching for a new dentist.
